Get covered with Irish Life

Life insurance or life cover is one of the most important financial products you can buy. It pays out a tax-free lump sum if you die during the term of the policy, which can then be used to support your family and dependants after you’re gone.

No one likes to think about dying, and we all hope to live happily into our old age! But the fact is that people can sometimes die unexpectedly. And that’s why life cover is so important as it provides a financial safety net and means you can ensure your loved ones will be financially secure should the worst happen.

Other popular types of life insurance include specified illness cover, which pays out a tax-free lump sum if you’re diagnosed with a serious illness that’s specified in the policy terms and conditions, and mortgage protection, which is similar to life insurance and is needed in order to get a mortgage.

Why choose Irish Life?

As well as a lump sum payout, life insurance policies with Irish Life come with additional benefits, some of which are unique to the insurer.

If you’re pregnant a payout of €5,000 is available if you fall ill with one of five common pregnancy-related illnesses including eclampsia and ectopic pregnancy. The payout won’t affect the value of your life cover and up to three payouts in total are available for three pregnancies i.e. €15,000. The benefit is available up until the age of 45. However you must have life cover of at least €25,000 to avail of it.

You also get access to NurseCare, a confidential phone and online support service based in Ireland that’s open 365 days a year. The service offers access to experienced Irish nurses who can answer your questions on a wide range of medical issues and provide information on treating and assessing minor ailments or accidents.

Within this service, there's also a dedicated Women’s Health Centre which specialises in queries relating to women’s health such as fertility, pregnancy and female specific illnesses.

And in the event that you need to make a claim, which given the nature of a life insurance policy will undoubtedly be a tough time for you personally, you get access to three free counselling sessions provided by the Clanwilliam Institute, at no extra cost.

Access to NurseCare and free counselling sessions are also available if you take out specified illness cover or mortgage protection with Irish Life.

Free children’s cover

When taking out life cover with Irish Life, each of your children are automatically covered for €7,000.

Most insurers include this for free as standard and Irish Life is no different. But its terms are more generous. It’ll cover your children up to the age of 25 regardless of education status whereas most insurers only provide cover up to the age of 18 or 21 if still in full-time education.

And if you take out specified illness cover, your children up to age 25 are automatically covered for €25,000 each or half of the specified illness amount you have chosen, whichever is lower.

A more convenient application process

When you apply for any type of life insurance, whether it be life cover, mortgage protection, or specified illness cover, you’ll have to complete a medical questionnaire about your health i.e. medical underwriting. And depending on your answers to the questions, follow-up questions and reports from your GP may be required.

For most insurers, we’ll call you during business hours to complete the medical questionnaire over the phone. And it usually takes no more than 30 minutes.

But with Irish Life you can complete the medical questionnaire online yourself in the comfort and privacy of your own home at a time that suits you. No other insurer offers this service. And it means there’ll be no need to disclose your medical history to someone over the phone, which can be uncomfortable for some people.

Compare all insurers

While Irish Life policies can sometimes cost a little more than other insurers, it’s important to remember that insurance in particular isn’t all about price.

Irish Life has a very good record of paying out claims. And it’s backed by a strong and well capitalised parent company, which is exactly what you want when you’re taking out insurance. And its products come with some unique features that you can’t get with other providers.

Either way, at bonkers.ie, we can now get you a quote from all of Ireland’s life insurance providers such as Aviva, Irish Life, New Ireland, Royal London Ireland, and Zurich and find you a policy to suit your needs and budget.

And remember, not only can we help you compare quotes, we can get your policy in place.

Once you submit an online inquiry, a member of our Dublin-based insurance team will arrange a call with you and guide you through your application. And we’ll be on hand throughout the entire process, from the very start until when your policy is issued.
