AIB is stepping up its tech-friendly game. The latest upgrade to its mobile banking app allows new customers to join AIB and open a Personal Current Account right from their smartphones.
Following in this footsteps of KBC Bank which made a similar move last September, AIB is aiming to make customers’ lives easier with its latest mobile banking app update.
The just-launched upgrade allows new customers to join AIB and open a Personal Current Account through their smartphones from the comfort of their homes from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week.
According to the bank, 850,000 customers use the AIB Mobile Banking App (up 20% year on year), on an average daily basis, evidencing that customers love the convenience of using their Smartphone to manage their everyday financial needs.
Mobile transaction volumes have also been growing rapidly, up 39% in H1 2018 Vs the same period in 2017.
So, how does it work?
By simply downloading the AIB Mobile App, new customers will now be able to open their Current Account in minutes from the comfort of their couch from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week.
Customers simply need:
- A Smartphone
- The AIB Mobile Banking App
- An email address and mobile number.
- An EEA passport
Customers must also be at least 18 years old and reside in Ireland.
Once in the AIB Mobile App, customers then follow key steps which will:
- Capture their address and other key details
- Verify their email and mobile numbers
- Launch a video call to a dedicated agent who will verify their Identity using their passport
Once complete, the customer will receive a letter in the post with a unique activation code. They can then login to the AIB Mobile App and key this code in to complete the process. Once verified, the account becomes fully active and a debit card and PIN will be automatically sent to the the customer.
Sean Jevens, AIB Head of Digital Channel Development said “The AIB Mobile Banking App has proved hugely popular with our customers. With over 300 million customer visits in 2017, it has become the key channel for customers to manage their finances, to transact or purchase new products. We saw a real demand to also bring this convenience and flexibility to the account opening process for new customers. This new feature means customers won’t need to go to a branch, make a call, find, copy or post documents when opening their account.”
