It looks like it might be trying to clear the Eir.
See what we did there...anyone...Bueller?
Seriously though it has been a rough year or so for Eir, first announcing it would no longer carry BT Sport in the Eir Sport pack and then being hit repeatedly with complaints from disgruntled customers, which landed it at the bottom of the list in terms of customer service according to ComReg.
However it looks like Eir is extending an olive branch to prospective customers. It has been flying sports stars like Wes Brown into town to promote the new season of sport and now it's offering a new deal exclusive to bonkers.ie.
But what is it and is it worth it? Let's find out...
The deal
So what Eir is offering is superfast broadband and a home phone package. This is going to set you back €39.99 a month for the full 12 months of the contract, giving you a first-year cost of €479.88.
You can expect up to 100Mbps download speed and up to 10Mbps upload speed as well as free off-peak call to landlines.
Who is the deal available to?
The deal is available for a limited time to NEW customers who sign up through bonkers.ie.
The good
The first good thing about this package is that it is over €100 cheaper than Eir's previous best deal, which represents a good saving.
Eir has also gone and scrapped the much-maligned activation fee of €49.99.
You will also get the Eir Sport pack for free, which will give you coverage of all 48 games in the Rugby World Cup plus coverage of Wimbledon, the World Rugby Under 20 Championship, Copa America, the SSE Airtricity League, GAA Allianz Leagues, FA Cup, as well as live coverage of all 152 Guinness PRO14 matches and more!
Also, being the former incumbent, Eir's services and therefore this deal should be available in most towns and cities around the country.
The not so good
The thorn in the side of Eir was, and remains to be, customer care. While this is an interesting offer, aftercare and support are very important. If everything goes according to plan and goes off without a hitch it all should be fine. However, if you have an issue with your account, service, or hardware, then this is when you really come to appreciate good customer support. So as always proceed with caution.
Also despite the concerted effort to get people back on board with this offer, it still isn’t quite the cheapest bundle that's out there, though the lure of free access to Eir Sport and all the upcoming games from the Rugby World Cup could just about swing it for many people.
As always, before you pull the trigger on any new utility deal make sure to compare and contrast all of the offers right here on bonkers.ie.
