Virgin Media has been crowned as ‘Ireland’s Fastest Internet Service Provider’ by Ookla for the second year running.
After carrying out over one million speed tests between July and December 2016, Ookla has revealed that Virgin Media is the fastest broadband provider in Ireland, delivering an average speed of 228 Mbps to its customer base.
Virgin Media currently offers speeds of up to 360 Mbps to households in Ireland and, thanks to the new Virgin Media Hub modem, customers are getting closer and closer to achieving this top speed on a regular basis.
Ookla, the independent measurement institute, carried out its speed tests across Ireland’s five main broadband providers and considered variables like time of day and volume of users when testing for speed.
It is the second year in a row that Virgin Media has won the Ookla award.
Virgin Media Ninjas are on the way
Virgin Media seems determined to help households get the most out of their broadband connections and will soon be sending its “ninjas” to customers across the country to personally help them improve their speeds.
The new initiative, dubbed ‘Red House’, will be music to the ears of broadband users who aren’t currently getting the speed they’re paying for. Various things like the position of router, thick walls and baby monitors can all hurt broadband connectivity.
Virgin Media’s “ninjas” are currently undergoing intensive training so they can be ready to help with these issues when the time comes.
The ‘Red House’ service will come at no additional cost and is expected to be launched before the end of the summer.
It's not a telly, it's not a tablet...it's a TellyTablet
Virgin Media has also teased us with a brand new device, which is designed to offer customers an impressive television viewing experience along with the convenience of portability.
The Virgin Media TellyTablet is a 14-inch, HD device that functions on the Android operating system and will be available for purchase before the end of the year.
Offers galore
It has been a busy month for Virgin Media, who just last week announced that its customers could sign up for unlimited data, calls and texts with Virgin Mobile for €5 a month for 5 months.
The provider is certainly proud of its title as the fastest broadband provider in Ireland and is not short of new initiatives coming down the line.
