Virgin Mobile has launched a range of special offers that will allow existing Virgin Media customers to save money on their mobile bills and devices.
Around 40,000 people are going to have to find a new mobile operator by April 6th. That’s because iD Mobile, the mobile operator that launched in Ireland in 2015 is closing down.
Ireland’s remaining mobile providers are gearing up to compete for the customers who are actively looking for a new operator and Virgin Mobile, another recent addition to the market, has cut prices on certain plans and devices.
What can existing Virgin Media customers get?
If you’re an existing broadband and TV customer with Virgin Media, you can get unlimited calls, texts and data with Virgin Mobile for €12 a month for six months. The price will increase to €25 a month after that.
If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, you can alternatively get 250 minutes, 250 texts and 2 Gb of data for €7 a month for six months, rising to €15 a month after that.
Virgin Mobile’s plans come with a rolling 30-day contract, so you can cancel at any time.

What devices are available?
Virgin Mobile has just launched the Samsung Galaxy S9 - the latest device from the manufacturer - which is available for an upfront cost of €179, followed by a monthly bill of €47 for six months, rising to €60 per month after that.
The device comes with a 24-month contract and once the device is fully paid off, your bill will drop to the price of the plan you’re on.
Virgin Mobile has also cut the upfront cost of the iPhone 6 from €29 to free. The package comes with a 24-month contract and costs €32 a month for six months, rising to €45 a month after that.
Mobile competition heats up
As mentioned, 40,000 iD Mobile customers have to find a new mobile operator by April 6th or risk losing service.
Virgin Mobile’s offers are likely to be tempting for many, but the Irish mobile market remains a highly-competitive space.
Eir, for example, is currently offering unlimited calls and texts and 15 Gb of data for €10 a month for six months, rising to €25 a month thereafter. Three, on the other hand, is offering unlimited calls texts and data for €30 a month and Vodafone is offering unlimited calls and texts and 5 Gb of data for €30 a month.
