New independent research conducted by RED C on behalf of bonkers.ie has revealed that almost a third of energy customers in Ireland feel they don’t have the best deal for their gas and electricity.
Do you think you're overpaying for your gas and electricity? Well if so, you're not alone as up to a third of energy customers in Ireland feel they don't have the best deal.
The news comes on the back of a raft of energy price increases this year which have added up to €300 to the average customer's annual gas and electricity bills in some cases.
Energy prices back on the rise
Speaking about the results from the research, Daragh Cassidy, Head of Communications at bonkers.ie said:
“With energy prices on the increase again, and as we head into the winter months when energy bills typically sky rocket, it’s more important than ever that customers are on the best deal for their gas and electricity and are getting the very best value for their money.
However, gas and electricity suppliers almost always save their cheapest tariffs for brand-new customers, which are heavily discounted by up to 30 percent or more compared to the standard rates a longer-term customer is charged. So the simple truth is that if you haven’t changed energy supplier within the past 12 months or so, you’re unlikely to be on the best deal that’s available to you."
Switch and save
At the moment the average household could save €267 a year on their gas and electricity costs just by switching supplier. However, if you're in a home with poor heat insulation or are living in a house with more than three bedrooms, the potential savings will be even higher.
It’s quick and easy to switch and it can all be done online in the space of a few minutes with no phone calls or paperwork involved. And trust us, your pocket will thank you when the post Christmas energy bills arrive!
