Electric Ireland has announced that its customers are to get price discounts of between 4% and 8.5% automatically applied to their bills over the coming weeks.
Electric Ireland has made another move to reward customers for their loyalty with a new automatic discount for existing customers.
Last May, the supplier announced an 8.5% loyalty discount for existing dual fuel customers and in February, it launched its #StayHappy campaign to highlight its long-term value offering.
What are the details?
If you’re an existing Electric Ireland customer, you could have opted in for a ‘loyalty discount’ any time over the last year or so.
But if you didn’t know about this or didn’t get around to doing so, the supplier is going to automatically apply the discount to your bill over the next few weeks.
Whether you’re an electricity customer, a gas customer or a dual fuel customer, you’re eligible for some form of discount.
The biggest discount, which is 8.5%, is available to dual fuel customers who pay by direct debit and use online billing.
This discount adds up to an annual saving of €141 every year if you have average consumption. And if you use more gas and electricity than the average household, your saving will be even bigger.
Here’s a breakdown of what discounts are to be automatically applied.

Non-direct debit customers will save too
Electric Ireland’s loyalty discounts were previously only available to customers who pay by direct debit, but today’s announcement changes that.
Non-direct debit customers who pay their bills within the 14-day credit term will also get automatic discounts applied to their bills in the next few weeks.
The biggest discount is available to non-direct debit dual fuel customers who use online billing. This discount, which is 7.5%, amounts to an annual saving of about €124 for households with annual consumption.

The price of loyalty
Today’s announcement from Electric Ireland comes at a time when Ireland’s energy switching rates are among the highest in the EU.
The supplier appears keen to show its customers that there it will reward customer loyalty with savings and discounts on an ongoing basis.
While the biggest savings are still available to customers who switch suppliers, today’s news from Electric Ireland is certain to be welcomed, particularly by non-direct debit customers who will now avail of fresh automatic reductions.
